Orsova

Orsova is a Romanian municipality of 13,085 inhabitants, located in the Mehedinți county, in the historical region of Banat.

The town is located on the shores of the lake artificially created on the Danube by the barrier of the Iron Gates; with its construction, the site where the oldest part of the town was located was completely covered by water and between 1966 and 1971 a new town was built, the current one, in which all the population was transferred, together with that of some nearby villages.

Among the places of major tourist attraction, we find the Danube gorges, located immediately upstream and downstream of the town, and the bust of Decebalus Rex, which has now become a tourist symbol not only of the area but an important attraction for all those who visit Romania.
